11:23pm, Youth Activity Center, Kenting

Up late trying to plan the next couple of days. Quick notes for today…

Up at 7am, breakfast was at the bottom of the list, compared to others. It was Rainy out when we loaded the car. Stopped for gas on the way out of Hualian, and drove south along the coast. Overcast, but visibility is great out to sea and up and down the coast. Lots of oohs and ahhs. Speed limits are super slow on these great roads (60km/hr most of time). Would have been 100km/hr speed limits in NZ likely.

There's the karaoki machine we heard last night. The breakfast buffet was forgetable today...

We stop at the lookouts, and check out a volcanic rock beach. Mesmorizing to watch waves crashing.

A vista point from the east coast of Taiwan...

Quite a scenic coastline...

A volcanic rock beach...

We could have stared at the waves crashing all day. Mesmorizing...

Then we head south to Sansiantai, which means "Three Immortals Terrace". There's an 8 arc bridge, with 16 steps up and down each one. We explore the island and head back.

We drive by rice fields...

Sansiantai, and the rainbow-y bridge leading out to an island. 14er cards makes an appearance...

I wondered out to catch a scenic view of the span...

Wendy takes of me standing on a rock (look for the spec in 1st pic). Wendy and Irene walk on a hump...

I make my way to the bridge...

There were other people on the bridge, I just waited for them to disappear in the dips to take these pics...

Arriving on the island...

Walking on the boardwalk...

Viewing the rocky coast at the end of the trail...

Heading back to the bridge...

Looking towards the mainland...

Looking back towards the island...

Another scenic view...

For lunch we stop in Chenggong at seafood place. Snails and fish stomach are among dishes.

Then we drive south, amid more beautiful scenery, before cutting across the island near the south end, to the west side, and continue down south to Kenting. The sun appears on west side!

Lunch. I hold a snail in the 2nd pic...

Cool looking fruit in these parts...

Sun on the west coast!

We call the Youth Activity Center during the drive into town, and they have 4 person room for 2400NT. It's styled like old temple. It's a long walk from the car to our "temple room" to haul in bags.

Cool decor at this Youth Activity Center (hostel) in Kenting...

Then we walk into town to check out the night market. I eat a chicken, cabbage, burrito/kebab thing, cooked peppers and onions on kebab, green tea ice cream, and a delicious corn dog (gotta change it up a bit, I'm missing American food)…

A look inside our room. We walked to the night market in town...

Mmm... wierd burrito/kebab, and food-on-a-stick...

Wendy and Irene have some green tea soft-serve ice cream...

Some stylish B&W pics from Betsy's camera today.

Back at hotel, we're busy trying to research for tomorrow. We'll see what unfolds…
