June 27th (Day 2): Sandefjord Beach Excursion

3:45pm
rocky beach south of Sandefjord

Fortunately, the post-party dissolved before it started, and I was asleep by 5:00am (11:00EST). Slept soundly. Everyone got up a little before 1:00pm (8:00am EST). So much for adjusting to the Norway time zone (+6 hours).

We went to a favorite beach of Mariann's ~1:50pm. Lots of big rocks and German bunkers that were built during WWII to protect an invasion via Norway. Never used in combat though. Clouds, sun, windy, cool. No one's getting in the water today.

Left the beach ~4:30. Went to Mariann's parents house and ate leftover wedding food (fish, break, and even delicious cake!). Mariann took some of us to a nearby site where the largest Viking ship was unearthed. Then we went with Karl's parents to see an old (and very feint) Viking rock carving ~500 B.C., and some large Viking grave stones ~450 A.D which were in nearby towns.

Then back to Sandefjord guest house. Did a short walk up to a lookout point nearby. Cloudy and cool. Chatted with Karl about meeting up during my trip. He'll look into details tomorrow for a Thurs-Sat time frame, probably meeting up in Andalsnes via the train.

Trip starts tomorrow! Thinking of driving the extra miles to Lysefjord to see the wedged rock….
